Located in San Francisco’s Central SOMA District, this Campsyte location is the first and part of a larger urban destination.

The next phase consists of a 3-level mixed-use building with creative work and meeting spaces, retail/food vendors, and outdoor spaces. Common spaces and amenities include a landscaped courtyard, secure bike storage, and shared lounges.

Our primary objective in designing this new temporary development was to balance an industrial urban environment with smart technology and eco-design.

Inspired by Wabi Sabi design philosophy, a balance of rawness and simplicity was envisioned using repurposed shipping containers, exposing the lightweight structural framing system, and incorporating a simple palette of materials – raw metals, reclaimed wood, and glass storefront. Wood slats wrap around the exterior corridors and draw in warmth while providing semi privacy and diffusion of light. Eco-design features include modular construction, smart heating/cooling, air and water vapor barrier, LED lighting, solar power, material reuse, reclaimed wood, permeable paving and upcycling of shipping containers.
