Colorbloq is an interactive experience designed to celebrate the art of craft. The name and space is inspired by the concept of ‘color-blocking’, the process of taking opposite colors and pairing them together to make interesting and complementary color combinations. The space, complete with colorful shipping containers, is a canvas for the creation of experiences that bring people together from diverse walks of life for workshops and special events.
Colorbloq is an exciting and unique addition to the SOMA neighborhood. Designed with artisans and makers in mind, it is a home for creative culture and events. The mission of Colorbloq is to help people rediscover the value and thrill of real-life interaction.
About the Space
Once a factory alongside the train tracks, this restored warehouse now houses 9 colorful shipping containers. The 10,000+ square foot space with 30-foot high ceilings comprises of:
Much of the original and raw finishes were maintained, such as the wood ceiling panels, exposed corrugated metal roofing, exposed columns and beams, and rough concrete floor. The shipping containers complement the industrial roots of the space. An expansive wood deck was added to provide a seamless walking path between the containers, while also providing warmth and depth to the space.
New restrooms and bar and catering station were added, designed to be understated and raw as to blend in with its surroundings. The bar and catering station is finished with maple plywood and handmade Fireclay Tile.
Natural air ventilation, radiant heating, and ceiling fans were installed to provide energy-efficient comfort. Distributed power, dimmable LED lighting, and a 1G fiber internet provide modern conveniences for today’s tech-centric needs.
Located in the heart of SOMA, just minutes from AT&T Ballpark, Moscone Center, and Caltrain Station.
