The Oriental Warehouse

San Francisco, CA

Under the San Francisco South Beach Redevelopment Plan of 1981, the Oriental Warehouse was designated as historical landmark due to its historical value as the early embarkment point of Oriental immigrants. The brick warehouse is situated near First and Brannan Streets. Its total area of 8,800 square feet on two floors had for many years been used as warehouse and storage space.

Mark and David, while at Fisher-Friedman Associates, were the main designers converted the warehouse into 66 spacious live/work lofts.

The 125-year old structure required substantial seismic upgrading and the addition of windows to the existing building in order to provide the lighting necessary for residential units. In addition, on the aggregated plan, the adjacent L-shaped property will support an additional 38 units in a new five-story structure as well as two 18-story buildings with recreational facilities and some retail.
